Teaching
A little about my approach to teaching.
I frame my Environmental Studies courses around the dual goals of understanding/solving problems and engaging with the natural world. Students are not only expected to learn in the classroom, but to go out and explore the world around them.
My goal in teaching ethics is not to give students guidance for how to act, but to provide them with tools for better self-reflection to help them more deeply understand what is important to them, and why.
Understanding value judgments about the natural world, and what these valuations mean, is key to both understanding and complicating our environmental decision-making.
